Martin Bichler received his MSc in Information Systems from the Technical University of Vienna, and his Ph. D. as well as his Habilitation (2000) from the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, where he was Associate Professor at the Department of Information Systems. He was working as a research fellow at UC Berkeley, and as research staff member at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, New York. Since 2003 he is full Professor of Internet-based Information Systems at the Department of Informatics of the TU München, and also a faculty member at the TUM Business School. In 2007 he spent his sabbatical at Cambridge University (UK) and with HP Labs in Palo Alto (US). He recently received an HP Labs eAward, the IBM Faculty Award 2008, and the INFORMS ISS Design Science Award.

Martin has been involved in research and development in the areas of auction design, analytical CRM, distributed systems, and operations research. He has designed and developed several commercial software packages. Martin is excited in solving real-world problems and, therefore, is interested in transfering results of his research to industry. He has been on the program committee of many international conferences and workshops and is on the editorial board of a number or top-tier journals such as ACM TWEB and POM. He is a member of the ACM, GI, GOR, WKWI, co-chair of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on E-Commerce (TCEC) and the Task Force on E-Commerce of the German Informatics Society (GI FB 5.5). Martin is responsible for the Master's program in Information Systems at TU München and a faculty and board member of the Bavarian Elite Master program "Finance and Information Management".
